Former Russian Transport Minister Starovoit Commits Suicide After Being Dismissed by Putin.


Former Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit took his own life after being dismissed from his position by President Putin. The tragedy occurred in Odintsovo, a suburb near Moscow, at Starovoit's home in the village of Myakino. The award firearm he used to commit suicide was obtained by Starovoit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2023.
According to their information, Starovoit committed suicide in his own home in Myakino, using the award firearm received from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2023.
The death of the ex-minister was confirmed by Svetlana Petrenko, a representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia. She stated that the body of the former minister was found in his personal vehicle with a gunshot wound.
Resignation and Subsequent Events
On the same day the tragedy occurred, Putin signed a decree dismissing Starovoit. He previously held the position of governor of the Kursk region and resigned in May 2024, even before the start of the military operation in that area initiated by Ukrainian forces.
The new governor of the Kursk region is Alexey Smirnov, but in April of this year, he was arrested on charges of embezzling one billion rubles intended for the construction of defense structures near the border with Ukraine under fictitious work contracts. He is accused of constructing low-quality structures and violating project requirements.
