On Tuesday, July 15, the Council of the European Union made a final decision to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees. Thus, protection for Ukrainian citizens has been extended until March 4, 2027.
This is reported by 'Suspilne'.Therefore, today, July 15, 2025, the Council of the European Union officially extended temporary protection for Ukrainians who were forced to leave their country and went abroad due to the full-scale war with the Russian Federation until March 4, 2027. It is noted that the decision was made based on a Directive allowing the extension of temporary protection in conditions where returning to the country of origin is impossible due to war or threat of mass human rights violations. The EU Council emphasized that the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine continues, and the security situation remains critical. According to the European Union, as of 2025, more than 4.3 million Ukrainians are benefiting from temporary protection in EU countries. Thus, this decision allows Ukrainians to continue to live, work, study, and receive basic social assistance in EU countries without the need to seek asylum. The document also states that member states will continue to exchange information to avoid duplicating statuses in different countries. Earlier we informed that one of the European countries in 2025 will significantly change the payment for housing for Ukrainian refugees. We also reported that Ukrainian refugees who left for the UK during the war are being mass denied asylum. After the extension of temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until 2027, citizens of Ukraine will be able to continue receiving support and the possibility of residency in the countries of the European Union without the need to seek asylum. This decision is positive for Ukrainians who are still fleeing the war in Ukraine and gives them the opportunity for stable development and life in the EU.
