ISW analyzed Israel's strikes near a Russian airbase in Syria.

On the night of October 2 to 3, Israeli drones struck an ammunition depot near the Russian airbase Khmeimim in Latakia province, Syria. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War.
According to the report, videos available on October 3 showed that a large fire broke out at the attack site, and ammunition explosions began, which occurred at night near the Khmeimim airbase.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, drones conducted the strikes and destroyed an ammunition depot used by Iranian and Syrian forces. The depot was located near the city of Jableh. The Observatory also noted that these strikes coincided with the activity of Israeli military aircraft in the region.
According to local sources, Syrian and Russian air defense systems attempted for about 40 minutes to intercept Israeli missiles but were unsuccessful. A well-known Russian military blogger, associated with the Kremlin, also confirmed that Russian air defense systems were activated during the attack, although the main target of the strike was not the Khmeimim airbase itself, used by Russian forces.
The report from the Institute for the Study of War also notes that although there are serious suspicions regarding Israel's involvement in this strike, it is currently impossible to officially confirm who is responsible for the attack in Latakia on October 3.
Let us remind you, Israel also struck the capital of Syria, resulting in the death of a well-known television presenter.
