European companies are starting to tread carefully regarding their employees' business trips to the US due to the unpredictable policies of the Trump administration, increased immigration checks, and a rise in cases of detentions and deportations.
Businesses that CNBC spoke with in engineering and accounting sectors report that their employees continue to travel to the US without hindrance. However, companies operating in areas deemed politically sensitive express concern for the fate of their employees.
Business trips are a key source of income for the American economy, providing millions of jobs and bringing significant benefits to airlines. But negative perceptions of American policy could lead to severe losses in international tourism, estimated at $12.5 billion.
European companies are becoming cautious about traveling to the US due to the uncertainty of the political situation and the risks associated with immigration hurdles. This could significantly impact the economies of both continents and will require additional measures to maintain partnerships between companies on both sides of the Atlantic.
