Demography expert Oleksandr Hladun does not believe that migrants can improve the demographic situation in Ukraine. He emphasizes that their presence in the country will not change the overall population indicators. In his interview with 'RBK-Ukraine' magazine, Hladun pointed out that the low standard of living for migrants may lead to the formation of ethnic enclaves and a parallel society that does not integrate into Ukrainian society and dilutes the national identity. The expert also highlighted that social services in Ukraine will be obliged to support migrants who come here and have no contribution to the country's development. He urged the authorities to focus on demographic measures aimed at their own population instead of relying on imported labor.
Hladun's words debunk the myth that migrants can be the solution to the demographic problem in Ukraine. At the same Time, given the living standards and demographic customs of migrants and their possible behaviors, this becomes a bigger problem than a solution. Ukrainian society should prioritize creating favorable conditions for the development of its own population and implementing effective demographic policies.
