Shooting in Oleshyn village: criminal attacked police officers and a civilian
On the night of September 14, 2024, in the village of Oleshyn, which is part of the Khmelnytskyi territorial community, a local resident, being in a state of alcohol intoxication, opened fire with a Kalashnikov assault rifle at law enforcement officers and a civilian.

The events unfolded around one o'clock in the morning when patrol officers stopped a car to check the reasons for movement during the curfew. During the driver's check, the Drager breathalyzer showed 1.27 per mille of alcohol in the blood, which significantly exceeds the permissible limit.
After drawing up an administrative protocol under Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, the drunk driver headed home, allegedly to resolve the issue with the vehicle. However, instead, he returned armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and opened fire on the police officers. About 60 rounds were fired during the attack.
The law enforcement officers were forced to return fire and call for reinforcements. As a result of the shootout, a police officer and a passenger in the attacker's car were injured. Both victims were immediately hospitalized. According to the latest data, the condition of the injured police officer is assessed as serious.
In addition, significant damage was caused to property. Two service vehicles were seriously damaged: one belonged to the crew that initially stopped the offender, and the second to the special unit fighters who came to the aid of their colleagues.
The criminal was detained by KORD police unit fighters during a special operation. A criminal case was initiated on the fact of the attack under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanctions of this article provide for imprisonment for a term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
The police report that the procedural leadership in the case is carried out by a special prosecutor's office. The investigation continues, and law enforcement officers are working on clarifying all the circumstances of this disturbing incident.
