Sopit won silver at the European Youth Fencing Championship.


Ukrainian fencers began their participation in the U-23 European Championship in the Estonian city of Tallinn. Our athlete Olha Sopit won a silver medal in the individual women's epee competition. In the semifinals, she defeated French fencer Emma Nell with a score of 15:11, but in the final, she lost to Italian Giulia Amore with a score of 10:15. This is already the fourth medal for Olha Sopit at the European Youth Championship.
Ukrainian saber fencers competed at the World Championship among juniors and claimed victory. The team consisting of Anna Maksymenko, Emily Konrad, Alina Dmytruk, and Valeria Bilous-Hrydziak managed to defeat the Chinese team with a score of 45:34. In this match, the advantage was unstable, but the last third decided everything. Valeria Bilous-Hrydziak defeated her opponent with a score of 8-7, Alina Dmytruk increased the lead to 4 hits (3-1), and Anna Maksymenko crushed her opponent with a score of 15-8.
Thanks to these victories, Ukraine occupies a leading position in the medal standings. Our team is in fifth place, having won 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. We have fewer awards only than the teams from the USA, Italy, Egypt, and Canada.
