U.S. President Donald Trump announced expectations for signing an agreement on the distribution of revenues from mineral extraction in Ukraine. He also stated that talks are ongoing regarding the acquisition of Ukrainian power plants by American companies.
At the negotiations in Riyadh, territorial issues and lines of demarcation in Ukraine are being addressed.
The Trump administration seeks new conditions for U.S. access to mineral and energy assets in Ukraine. The agreement on Ukraine's minerals may include the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The U.S. is trying to negotiate deals on rare earth metals and minerals worldwide. The U.S. President stated that the conflict in Ukraine continues and is a particular topic of the agreement.
Trump proposed to transfer Ukrainian nuclear power plants to U.S. ownership, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that discussions were only about the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. He emphasized that ownership issues belong to Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials expressed concern about potentially unfavorable terms in the agreement after the suspension of arms supplies and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
