Tragedy in the Red Sea: six tourists died, including four Russians
Today, March 27, a tourist submersible accident occurred in the Red Sea near the city of Hurghada in Egypt. While exploring coral reefs, the submersible 'Sindbad' descended to a depth of 22 meters and had an accident. Unfortunately, six tourists died, four of whom were citizens of the Russian Federation. According to The Guardian, at the Time of the accident, there were 45 people on board, of which 29 were rescued and nine were injured.
The Russian consulate in Hurghada confirmed the death of Russian citizens and stated that all tourists on board were Russians. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated, but preliminary reports indicate that the submersible mistakenly left the harbor, collided with an underwater rock, and sank due to a crack in the hull.
This is not the first such incident involving Russian tourists. Earlier, in February of this year, sharks attacked two Russian tourists in the Philippines, leading to their deaths. In November 2024, over 170 tourists, including Russians, were stranded on a cruise ship in Antarctica. In September 2022, six Russians died during a volcanic eruption in the Kamchatka region (Russia).
Such events highlight the risks associated with tourist travel and require tourists to adhere to safety regulations.
