About 14,000 people in the city of Osnabrück, Germany, were forced to leave their homes due to the search and neutralization of unexploded bombs from World War II. This information was published by Spiegel.
The evacuation zone also includes two hospitals and several nursing homes. As a result of this incident, 8,650 households and approximately 300 business addresses were affected. Individuals who do not comply with the evacuation requirement face fines of up to 5,000 euros.
The police are monitoring the evacuation area. However, the authorities reported that not all citizens are showing the necessary discretion and force has to be used to enforce the requirements. To ensure citizens' safety, the main train station will also be closed during the work.
Discovery of unexploded bombs at former freight station
Unexploded bombs were found during the examination of the area of the former freight station, where the construction of a new district is planned. The duration of the bomb disposal work is currently unknown and may take until night. For residents who have become victims of the evacuation, a supply school has been organized.
