Ukraine will be represented in men's triple jump at the European Indoor Championships in 2025 for the first Time in 8 years. One of the leaders of the national team, 23-year-old Vladislav Shepelev, qualified for this tournament.
At the Ukrainian Championship, Shepelev achieved victory with a result of 16.43 meters, which is his fourth-best performance in his career. This performance came against the backdrop of unsuccessful starts at the beginning of the season and a random announcement about his retirement.
Before the tournament, Shepelev published social media messages about his decision to retire, stating that his last start would be at the Ukrainian Championship. However, after his victory, the athlete claimed that it was a hype aimed at increasing the audience's interest in the competition.
Thus, instead of retiring, Shepelev has qualified for his first European Indoor Championship in his career. His jump of 16.43 meters is the second-best result of his career. The qualification for the tournament will take place on March 7.
The last time Ukraine was represented in men's triple jump at the European Indoor Championships was in 2017. Now Vladislav Shepelev will try to reach the finals and conquer his second major international tournament in his career.
