According to the Commander of the US Armed Forces in the Indo-Pacific region Admiral Samuel Paparo, the United States has natural advantages over China in a war for Taiwan if it were to start immediately. However, he warns that the balance of power may shift sharply in the near future. This was reported by 'Hvylya', citing the Financial Times.

Admiral Paparo noted that the US military has advantages in undersea military operations and space compared to China. However, he cautions that China is producing weaponry, including military ships, faster than the US. 'Our trajectory... every element of power that is important is developing poorly,' stated Paparo.

The admiral described that China produces two submarines each year, while the US only produces 1.4. He also emphasized that the situation with surface ships is even worse: China builds six military ships each year, while the US only builds 1.8.

Paparo's predecessor, retired Admiral John Aquilino, previously stated that China has a strategy of gradually increasing military activity to avoid detection of the growing threat. Paparo added that China has significantly increased its military activity in the past year. He emphasized that Beijing is conducting exercises of 'the entire spectrum of military operations' against Taiwan - from direct landings on the island to blockades at sea. 'The pace of change in the depth and breadth of their exercises is that nonlinear effect that keeps me awake at night or unsettles me,' he said.

Admiral Paparo added that the Chinese fleet has become more active in other parts of the Pacific. In February, China conducted combat exercises near Australia and became the first to circumnavigate the continent. 'They are gradually becoming a global power,' warned the admiral.

The American commander also mentioned that he received a warning from his predecessor John Aquilino, who suggested that during Paparo's command, a war between the US and China over Taiwan could arise.

Earlier, US intelligence warned of China's intentions to invade Taiwan by 2027. Paparo believes that this is not just a mid-term date, but a 'readiness date.'

Previously, China issued an ultimatum to the US regarding contacts with Taiwan.
