The tradition of Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman
As is known, Uman becomes a place of pilgrimage for Hasidim every year, who come to the grave of Tzadik Nachman, the founder of Breslov Hasidism. The tradition of gathering here has existed since the late 18th century and attracts pilgrims from all over the world every year, primarily from Israel, the USA, and Europe.
Rosh Hashanah, which will begin on October 2 at sunset, is one of the most important holidays in the Jewish calendar. The celebration includes prayers, a ritual meal, and special traditions, among which are the sound of the shofar (a ritual ram's horn), the consumption of apples with honey as a symbol of a sweet new year, and prayers by bodies of water for the atonement of sins.
The culminating moment for Hasidim in Uman is the prayer at the grave of Tzadik Nachman, where it is believed that their prayers have special power. The celebration lasts several days and is accompanied by both religious rituals and festivities, as Rosh Hashanah symbolizes a new beginning and hope for blessings in the coming year.
Local authorities and law enforcement agencies ensure safety and coordinate actions to make the celebrations safe for all participants and the local population.
